We Go METRO!

keithwebrev

Keith G. -- "I take the Metro to enjoy my commute, not hate it.
On nice sunny days, I enjoy some rays while I'm waiting for the number 3. I read my Blackberry or the paper while they do the driving. No driving in traffic. And when I take the kids or go with friends on the bus, I actually get time to talk with them; I'm not stopping and going at red lights. Plus I've met new people and the walking to and from the stops is really healthy.
And they'll carry my bike on rainy days or get me through bad blizzards safely in the winter. Why drive?"

Anne F. -- "I've been riding METRO off and on for over 20 years. I've been riding it daily thru the work week for the last five years. My husband and I have managed to become a one-car family because of METRO. It saves us upkeep and car insurance on a second car, gasoline; and I save myself the stress of driving to and from work in traffic and weather conditions. In fact, it makes me a more productive employee. When the office closes because of weather conditions, I can stay at work, because the buses very rarely stop running. I've also met some interesting people that I would never have met otherwise."

Anne commutes daily on METRO to her job at One Monument Square in Portland.

Jennifer G. -- "I love taking the METRO for the convenience (the number 4 bus picks me up at the end of my street and drops me right off at work), the environmental benefits and the economic wear, tear and gas for my truck. I'm able to catch up on reading or emails during the commute and use my time effectively. My family meets me at the bus stop after work, so we all get alittle outdoor exercise in!"

Jennifer takes the bus to her job at IDEXX in Westbrook.

Elizabeth N. -- “I am so pleased to use the METRO to commute to  work. It’s an easy hop from Falmouth and allows my children the use of our family car. Plus, it’s one less vehicle on the road, which helps keep Maine air clean.”

Elizabeth takes METRO Route #7 from Falmouth to her job at the Maine Historical Society

Hilary F. “Taking the bus for me is easy, affordable and convenient. The number 3 picks me up less than a block from my house and drops me off less than a block from work. Plus, it saves me loads of time from driving around and trying to find parking in Portland!”

Rachel O. "I love having easy access to the Metro. I am mainly a bike commuter but when the weather is rough in the winter, Metro is by far the fastest, safest and easiest way for me to get to work. When it snows in the winter, I head to the bus stop. No shoveling, no cleaning off the car, no slipping around on the roads, no parking problems. I can kick back and read and relax. I often arrive at work long before the rest of my colleagues- even those that live on peninsula. My husband and I often take the bus downtown for our nights on the town. Door to door it is much faster, as we don’t have to drive all around looking for parking. And we get to talk, without thinking about traffic and which road to take."

Rachel travels by bike and by METRO (route #3) to her job on Commercial St. in Portland.

Testimonials from
Employers and Business Contacts

“We offer our employees Metro passes in lieu of a parking space.  The Metro passes benefit our employees and PowerPay, by saving employees the costs associated with driving their vehicle to and from work while helping PowerPay forward its Green Mission.  In addition, the Metro’s schedule and routes make it a convenient alternative to driving and allows employees to relax during their commute.”

“Through Maine Medical Center's ‘Get on Board’ alternative commuting program, the hospital encourages employees to take advantage of the area's bus services, including METRO, because they offer reliable and convenient transportation and are a green alternative. The hospital is pleased to subsidize a portion of the cost to make METRO an even better value for staff.”

Mike Ryan, Vice President of Operations

"Public transportation helps our employees and the greater community by offering an alternative, safe method of transportation, and is consistent with IDEXX's goal of environmental responsibility."
