METRO NEWS June 8, 2011 -- METRO General Manager David Redlefsen and Board President Michael Foley. Seven new, clean diesel buses officially joined the METRO fleet June 8, 2011.These environmentally friendly buses were purchased as part of President Obama's American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, with additional funds provided by the Maine Department of Transportation. ON THE METRO METRO Bus service connects to other regional transportation agencies including South Portland Bus, ZOOM, Concord Coach, Casco Bay Lines and Amtrak Downeaster. In 2006, METRO added 13 compressed natural gas buses to their fleet. In 2007, the METRO Pulse at Elm Street, the Downtown Transportation Hub, was updated to include rest rooms and seating for 40+ individuals. (click here for additional historical background.)
